Off to the Office: Zara edition.

“Work, work, work, work, work” as Rhianna sings in that one song of the same name … has become my life as a new college grad!

Starting full-time work in a couple of weeks, I’ve had to start stocking up on some new business attire for my wardrobe! There go my combat boots in exchange for flats & heels, my jeans for business pants, and tee’s for blouses. I’ve had a few pieces from my time during my internship, however, I only went in a couple of days a week. Now, that it’s everyday, I’m going to need a lot more options haha.

I’ve had some great success at TJMAXX, Forever 21, Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack/HauteLook and most recently Zara!

One thing I’ve noticed is that you have to go in without any expectations when looking for work clothes, since that’s when I usually find the best pieces! 🙂 It’s always good to have some sort of idea in terms of style and looks, but it can be a bit tricky to find the exact piece of clothing / item you have in your mind.

This is especially true in regards to my recent trip to Zara. My parents were in town visiting and we went to explore Disney Springs. It was my Mom’s idea to go inside and look around — so I was surprised to walk out with bags in hand!

This red-orange jacket is what first caught my eye — I just had to do a double take! It’s so bright, vibrant, and fun! Definitely a great piece to mix and match with and will for sure turn a few heads. 😉

With such a vibrant color as this, I think it’s best to let it stand on its own and wear it with very subtle amounts of other colors.

Accessory colors: emerald-green, pink, lilac, fuchsia, orange, and gold.

Blouse and pants colors: grey, nude/light brown, white, black, dark/light blue.

The other item I purchased (which I plan to wear with this jacket) are these grey business pants. They’re great because of how versatile they are — I mean, grey goes with everything! They fit very well and are really comfortable!

I suggest every working girl must have at least one pair of grey business pants as well as black for your office wardrobe!

Next week I’m taking a trip to J.Crew Factory, which is another store I have a lot of luck in with finding business clothes! So until then, I’ll wait to post my latest finds from there so I can give you shoppers the latest update! 🙂

5 Monthly Favorites: May Edition.

5 Monthly Favorites Blog Header - May.pngHey shoppers!

This post showcases my 5 favorite things in fashion, beauty, health, food, and sweet treats for the month of May.

1.  Out Of This World!IMG_9634.JPGThis month’s fashion favorite is my new pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarer’s. Part of the Cosmo collection — they’re pretty out of this world! I have been needing a new pair of Ray-ban’s ever since I unfortunately lost my other pair a while back. When I saw these on sale on HauteLook — I knew I had to try them! At first, I was a bit hesitant if they would go with a lot, considering they’re an iridescent mix of purple and blue — which is a far cry from my last pair of plain black. However, I was pleasantly surprised and fell in love with them! I’ve gotten a ton of compliments and feel like I’m looking out into a whole new universe. 😉

2.  Chubby LipsSAM_0237.JPGThis month’s beauty favorite is Clinique’s ‘Chubby Stick’ Moisturizing Lip Color Balm.  I’ll be the first to say I’ve never been a huge fan of make-up — especially anything that takes more than 10 minutes to do (a.k.a. contouring) or leaves me feeling disheveled (such as lip-gloss). Lets face it, I’ve just started wearing mascara everyday and putting more than just concealer on my face. However, I recently came across Clinique’s Chubby Stick’s and they are AMAZING! They’re moisturizing, stay on for quite a while, and come in all kinds of great shades! I definitely suggest checking them out next time you’re at the mall.

3.  Do You Even Lift?

This past semester I finally started to get serious about my fitness goals. I haven’t been in the best place (confidence or self-esteem wise) and it definitely had a lot to do with how I felt about my weight. Now having officially graduated from college — still crazy to think about — I’m now at the gym everyday (if not every other day)! I’ve been eating healthier, cutting out a lot that I used to eat: not as much bread, no fast food, less chocolate — although still can’t get away from it completely — haha. I’m nowhere near my goal but am proud that I’ve started heading in the right direction! I’m feeling a lot better about myself and am hoping in the next few months I can say I’m a lot closer to where I want to be! I’ve been doing weights for 30 minutes and then 30 minutes of cardio to end my session!

4.  Hey, Skinny!

This month’s food favorite is more of a snack, but it is definitely one of my new favorite things! Hi, I’m Skinny is a grain based snack packed with whole grains & has less than 140 calories per serving! Say what!? The two I’ve tried are Superfood Mean & Green — which has kale, spinach, and peas — and Sweet Potato! They’re both great and easy for work, school, and just any time you’re feeling a little hungry and want something to munch on (without having to feel guilty!) So far the Sweet Potato are my favorite, but can’t wait to try them all!

5.  Chillin’ in the Arctic  SAM_0212.JPGThis month’s sweet treat favorite is Arctic Zero’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice cream.  As I’ve been starting my new health craze, I knew I had to find a dessert that could satisfy my sweet tooth without sacrificing all of my hard work. Well, look no further! This company (as well as the other similar & popular Halo Top) have brought us an eat-the-entire-pint-without-feeling-guilty mentality! With each flavor having different calories per serving, most are between 35 – 75 calories for 1/2 a cup and 150 – 300 calories for the whole pint! If you think about it, that’s basically 13 pieces of kitkat bites (which are my weakness!) at around 302 calories. Talk about a no brainer the next time I’m reaching for a sweet treat! 🙂

Coffee, Statements, and Current Reads.

Hey shoppers!

Today I had the day off from work which was a nice reprieve from my usual weekly schedule. It was one of those days where I had finished all of my errands earlier in the week, so all that was left to do was to explore!

To be honest, I’m still not used to having all of this free time and I’m starting to feel a bit out of sorts. I like being able to choose what to do with my free time, however, I’m still trying to figure out what to get involved in. There are so many things I’d like to do that it’s just taking the time to sit down and plan things out. I’m sure as you can tell, I’m slowly starting to get back into blogging and being more consistent (and on social media as well!) Other activities I’m looking to get involved in are kick-boxing, possibly picking back up guitar, yoga, traveling, becoming a work-out-aholic 😉 , jewelry-making, journaling/writing, and more! I’m also looking forward to taking the time to explore more of Orlando! For even though I’ve lived here for 4 years, I haven’t had much time to see all there is to offer — which is a little of what I did today!

FBRR9011.jpgRocking my new shorts from J. Crew Factory, a simple grey tee, and one of my first statement necklaces I acquired during my freshman year at college — I bounded out the door, ready to visit a few local spots that I’d recently heard of!IMG_9657.jpg  My first stop (and where I spent most of my day, actually) was Foxtail Coffee Co. in Winter Park. Being an Instagram photo favorite, I’ve seen many of my friends (and fellow Orlando fashion + lifestyle bloggers) visit this quaint, local coffee shop. So, I figured — why not see what all the hype is about?

It’s funny how I have always been so opposed to coffee, however, now it seems I’ve acquired more of a taste for it! Let’s be real here though … for now, I will only ever order iced-coffee. Why? Because by the time I drink it (as to not burn my tongue like I usually do every time) it’s already cold, so why not order it that way? haha.

What I enjoyed about Foxtail was that had a really great atmosphere! It was very hip and chic. There were a ton of different light fixtures everywhere, comfy leather seats, and a bunch of small wooden tables to sit and do work on. It was fun to people watch and just sit back and relax for a while!

Another aspect I enjoyed was that they had super nice and really helpful staff! The gentleman who helped me answered all my questions about their drink selections and even gave me some sample’s of some of the coffee’s I was interested in ordering! I thought was pretty neat! GJVH8472.jpg On my way home I decided to stop at Barnes and Noble to see if there were any new books that caught my eye. Unsurprisingly, another big thing I will be doing in my free time will be a lot of reading! I found these two books, Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen (a classic — which was only $5) and Ready Player One by Ernest Cline (a futuristic novel which is going to be turned into a movie coming out next year)! I also have another book on the way, Lord of the Shadows by Cassandra Clare, which is a continuation of the series that I read last year! So I will be very busy for the time being in the reading department, that’s for sure! 😉 haha.

For the rest of the day, I got ready for my work-day ahead and had a late night gym session! I would call this day a success in my book and am looking forward to visiting more local spots soon! 🙂

Late Night Confessions: Modern dating ruining romance?

SJTX7885.jpgA piece of Graffiti artwork along the streets of Tel Aviv, Israel

Tinder. Bumble. Clover. Hinge.

All of these names have one synonymous thing in common and it rhymes with fading hopes …

Wait, what? Okay maybe not rhymes, per se, but sure does mirror my sentiments in regards to this topic.

Yup, that’s right — they’re all dating apps.

I’ve always said I was born in the wrong generation. I feel more in tune with older music, inspired by older style, and relate to older movies. I feel the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s were the best of times for a lot of things — and I wasn’t even alive to experience them! However, with the great introduction and further advancement of technology, things drastically changed. I will say most things changed for the better but for others … not so much.

I feel this type of advancement which spurred the creation of dating apps, has altered the definition of what new and upcoming generations consider to be romance. In all honesty, I’m a little on the fence with it all.

“This is the beginning of anything you want.”

Brittany-40To think I wrote a similar post 4 years ago as I began my college career is mind-blowing. I can’t believe I’m officially graduating from UCF this week! It’s true what they say — time flys by during these 4 years and to enjoy every minute! My journey hasn’t been easy … with a few bumpy roads and hills to climb along the way. However, I wouldn’t change the experience for the world!

I met many creative and intellectual people (some of who I know will be life-long friends), had some great professors and took interesting courses. Most importantly though, I learned a lot about myself and couldn’t be prouder of how far I’ve come!

I gained fantastic opportunities within many different organizations on campus. From starting in a leadership program to moving up to become an Executive Board member for Knights of the Round Table (KoRT), competing in a business competition with the DECA organization and finishing in the top 10, and making great connections in my sorority Chi Omega as well as other organizations. I also couldn’t have gained the fantastic internship opportunity that I have without the College Work Experience Program (CWEP) UCF provides partnering with Lockheed Martin!

This is only the beginning! … and I intend to make the next 4 years just as exciting, challenging, and intellectually stimulating as the last! 🙂

Thank you for all of you who have supported me throughout the years — especially to my amazing family and friends! See you in the real world! 😉

New Year, Better Me.

Ahh! I can’t believe 2017 is finally here and that 2016 has officially come to an end.

I will say, 2016 was such a roller-coaster of a year! There were many up’s and down’s, but a lot of great things had come out as a result. I finished the year strong by going on an amazing trip to Israel on Birthright! I had an incredible experience and gained over 40 new friends!

It has been full-steam ahead since 2017 began! I’m in my last semester in college (say, what!?) haha. I’m now working full-time hours at my internship, taking a full load of classes — and one of them is yoga — which I will say I was skeptical to take at first. However, now that we just had our first class today, I couldn’t be more excited for it!  I’m also planning on doing research with a professor (if it’s possible) and working on a project with my peers to present at a conference in March.

I’m very excited to experience and see all the new beginnings this year brings! 🙂

22 Life Lessons for 22 Years of Life.

“I don’t know about you, but I’m feelin’ 22!” haha (Thanks Taylor Swift)

Well, if you couldn’t guess, it’s my 22nd birthday today (woohoo!) I’ve decided to reflect on all the life lessons I’ve learned thus far, as I’ve made it to this point in my life. It hasn’t been an easy road, but I’m so thankful for my journey! I’m excited for all that lies ahead and for all the new life lessons I’ll learn along the way. 🙂

  1. Rejection is inevitable, however it is essential. It helps to keep you humble, motivated, and teaches you to look forward to the future. There is always an opportunity for something better to come your way — if not today, than tomorrow.
  2.  Don’t let your insecurities define you. As my idol Joan Jett sings,

“Insecure – everybody feels a little
Insecure – tell ya one thing I know for sure
    We’re all a little insecure

You shouldn’t care what people think of you
All you can do is be yourself
No matter how they see you
You really can’t be somethin’ else

You’re not the only one that feels this way
Inside they look the same as you
    When it seems never ending
    Remember they’re pretendin’ too …”

  3. Failure is the ultimate foundation to grow and to build on to create your success. Ever since I was born, I was expected to fail. Being born premature, my brother and I were given less than a 10% chance of survival. I was rejected from a few different schools when I was younger, because I needed extra help with my learning. I wasn’t picked for most activities, whether in school or at camp, because I was to quite and shy. Well, just as these 50 famously successful people who failed at first, I showed myself and the world, how you can’t let the bets placed against you equal your worth.  I’m one semester away from being a college graduate, I landed a fantastic internship with an incredible company, and I have such an amazing support system.
  4. Embrace your individuality, because there’s only one you. 🙂
  5. If you have a few close friends, you’ve hit the jackpot. I’ve never been that tyoe of person to have tons and tons of friends. I’ve only ever had a few good friends for I’ve always been very picky, haha. However, the few that I do have are people I know I can trust, count on for anything, and know that they’ll always be there. So, if you can count your close friends on one hand (even more so on two), know you’re very lucky!
  6. You don’t have to like something just because someone (or society) tells you to. I can honestly say I’ve never fit in. I’ve always felt I was more mature than my age group, and was never into the mainstream trends. Even if I did become interested in them, it wasn’t until months after they were old news. Its taught me that just because something’s popular, doesn’t mean it’s supposed to make you happy.
  7. Travel as often as you can. For there are some lessons that can’t be taught in the classroom.
  8. Don’t let yourself be a pushover. From many different experiences, it doesn’t help you or the situation. Stand your ground and confront the conflict head on. I know it’s easier said than done, because believe me — it has taken me a while to implement it. However, since I’ve become more aware of it, it has allowed me to become more confident in my opinions and decisions.
  9. Don’t beat yourself up, you’re doing the best that you can! Whether it’s trying a new fitness regime, finishing that new (well, now old) book, or keeping up with your assignments … remember you’re only human! If you can’t get everything done that you wanted to today, there’s another day just around the corner!
  10. Constantly research. It doesn’t matter if it’s for class, your dinner plans, or for your next vacation … learn how to research! It’s such a helpful skill to have, and it allows you to learn about so many places and things. Constantly be curious!
  11. Always have a plan. Maybe this is just my internship talking, but planning is so important! Don’t get me wrong, spontaneity is fun as well! However, having some sort of plan is always ideal. It allows you to keep yourself motivated and excited for what’s to come!
  12. Never settle. It couldn’t be better said than with this quote by John Lennon, “Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.”
  13. Always be open to trying new things and experiences. I’m definitely still working on this one (especially where food is concerned, haha!) However, it’s important to realize that there’s only so many opportunities you can be fortunate enough to have … so don’t waste them!
  14. Take risks every once in a while. Adventure is out there! You never know what new things you’ll discover … especially about yourself.
  15. Never stop learning! I would say this goes with constantly researching. Read new books and about current events, travel, listen to new music, go to that new shop that just opened up, watch movies you haven’t seen before, etc. There are so many resources and opportunities for growth and learning. Take advantage of them! Check out 40 amazing places to learn something new everyday!
  16. Listen and be kind to others, but pleasing everyone is not your job. You need to learn how to make yourself happy before you start to worry about everyone else.
  17. Wear what makes you feel confident and beautiful. Clothing is one of the many forms of self-expression. Own it! As you know, fashion is such a (dare I say it) passion of mine, that I couldn’t imagine my life without it! When I get dressed up every day, it makes me feel excited to take on whatever comes my way!
  18. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. This is something I was never really good at. I was always to nervous to speak up and would think I’d be able to figure things out on my own. However, as I got older, I learned how silly of me it was because you’ll never be able to learn that way. I saw this Chinese Proverb and thought it couldn’t explain this concept better, “He who asks a question remains a fool for five minutes. He who does not ask remains a fool forever.”
  19. Always try to help whenever and wherever you can.
  20. Don’t be afraid to be independent! There may come a time when you no longer have the opportunity to do so. Take the chance now — figure out your likes, your dislike, and how to care for and live by yourself.
  21. Take a break every now and then. (And not just of a Kit Kat bar, haha!) Take a breather, dance like no one’s watching, enjoy the sweeter things in life and do what makes you happy.
  22. & Never, ever, ever give up!

I hope at least one of these lessons resonates with you. Thank you to everyone for your constant love and support, I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am today without you! 🙂 Hope you have a fantastic day and eat some cake + have a glass of wine for me! 😛

Stay fashionable,
